💚 No surprises here: I am a podcast addict and get most of my insights on climate/carbon/CDR from listening to a number of shows. Today I would like to highlight one in particular, which I have come to love: Ross Kenyon’s Reversing Climate Change podcast.
🌟 Ross is - by far - the most prolific CDR podcaster out there. He has recorded close to 500 episodes (!!!) by now across different podcasts, often dishing out 2-3 episodes per week. I love his style: free-flowing and full of unexpected gems.
This week’s episode was world-class: a discussion with Michael Azlen on how CDR will fit into compliance markets. What I learnt:
📈 Carbon compliance markets (think ETSs) have growth from $10b/month in 2018 to $70b/month today.
🇪🇺 Since 2005, sectors regulated by the EU ETS have reduced 900Mt of CO2 emissions.
🇨🇳 China’s ETS is already 5x Europe’s covering 7Gts of emissions - a 5% annual reduction in the cap could thus lead to 350Mt emission reductions annually in China alone
💡 Beyond discussions, I also love Ross’ monologues. Check out episode 344 on “The Optimal Number of Travel Deaths is Non-Zero: Carbon Removal Trade-Offs in Scale and Quality”. A prime example of an episode that really got me thinking about CDR in a different way.
💵 And, if you enjoy the show as much as I do, consider becoming a paid subscriber like myself: $5/month to help Ross keep up this incredibly valuable format.
👏 Thanks for doing what you are doing Ross and onto the next 500 episodes!
