šŖšŗ A stable and healthy land carbon sink is crucial for the EU to meet its climate mitigation obligations. It currently compensates around 6% of its GHG emissions.
š² However, the EUās land sink has been in steady decline over the last decade. So much so that EEA has concluded that Europeās LULUCF target of -310 MtCO2 removals by 2030 is āvery unlikelyā.
š± What happens when our land sinks turn into sources of emissions? Can this trend be reverted? And what are we going to do to make up for failed LULUCF targets?
šļøTo help us get to the bottom of this, weāre pleased to welcome Asger Strange Olesen, one of Europeās leading voices on climate and land sector policy whoās also involved in the hashtag#CRCF work as an Independent Member of the EU Carbon Removal Expert Group.
š¬ Join me along with Eve Tamme as we learn more about the science behind the shrinking sink, explore current EU policy responses, and uncover the best CDR policy solutions to enhance land-based removals.
