🎉🥂 CDR just had its first summer party!🥂🎉

🇩🇪 Blessed with glorious weather and overlooking the skyline of Berlin, the who’s who of Germany’s buzzing carbon dioxide removal (hashtag#CDR) ecosystem gathered yesterday to discuss, network, and primarily have fun.

Key themes from the evening:

🏆 With 48 CDR companies, Germany is already the leading CDR ecosystem in the European Union

📈 Germany’s CDR industry could reach €70b by 2050, equivalent to today’s wind power industry and generate up to 190,000 jobs

📜 Major CDR legislation - “Langzeitstrategie Negativemissionen” - is already on the way and should be passed by spring 2025

🎯 Integration of CDR into the EU ETS is the main objective and enjoys widespread political support

💶 Cost of durable removals need to reach €200/t to become competitive and scaleable through the domestic market

🔎 Robust monitoring, reporting, and verification (hashtag#MRV) will make or break CDR

😍 For me, seeing this all come together was a huge moment of pride. In just 15 months we went from nothing to filling a venue with over 150 motivated and highly capable people committed to scaling CDR. The energy was palpable, the momentum is building.

👏 Shout out to our special guest, State Secretary Stefan Wenzel, who continues to lead Germany’s efforts in building the regulatory framework needed to scale CDR. And the Members of Parliament Olaf in der Beek and Thomas Heilmann, who are some of the driving forces in the German Bundestag driving the agenda forward.

🌟 Noah Deich: thank you for sharing your pioneering work in the U.S. I had a blast showing you around Berlin in our two days together here. Now that you've experienced them, I hope you can introduce CDR Summer Parties to the U.S.

🙏 Also really appreciate the inputs from our other panelists and presenters Sabine Fuss, Sabine Nallinger, Oliver Geden, Dr. Patrick Herhold, Lisa Mangertseder, and Dr. Johanna Puetz.

💪 None of this would have been possible without the hard work of the Deutscher Verband für negative Emissionen e.V. (DVNE) team, led by Stefan Schlosser (who is a born MC btw), Nicole Herold, Sebastian Hanss-Mirodone, and Philipp Rupp.

🙇‍♂️ Finally, thank you to the 46 companies who have already put their trust into the Deutscher Verband für negative Emissionen e.V. (DVNE), most of whom gathered for our first-ever in-person general assembly as well as the event. You are doing all the hard work. Without you, there would be none of this.

💚 All emissions associated with the event will be compensated with high quality CDR.
