🌍 Believe it or not, it’s that time of year again: hashtag#COP29 kicks off today in Baku, Azerbaijan and runs until Friday, 22 November 2024. It is clearly going to be a smaller and quieter one than last year's in Dubai or next year’s in Brazil.
👀 So what is at stake for carbon dioxide removal (hashtag#CDR) this year? All eyes will be on the UNFCCC’s Article 6.4 negotiations, after then the surprise breakthrough by its Supervisory Body a few weeks ago. Will the negotiators at COP veto it? Seems unlikely because it would require consensus. So watch this space, we are set to finally have a 6.4. CDR standard.
🌊 Riding the waves of this momentum, one of the main calls to action the CDR industry has been rallying behind is for separate CDR targets in next year’s NDCs. Separate targets drive transparency and spark action.
