šŸ“£ ERW and OAE: time to take centre stage in the CRCF!

ree

šŸ‡ŖšŸ‡ŗ Next Thursday (25th), the European Commission is holding a Technical Workshop on the role of ERW and enhanced ocean alkalinity (OAE) within the CRCF. And you can join!

šŸƒ Let’s be clear: this is just the first step of many: there are a lot of open questions when it comes to both approaches, and it might take a while until we see a final permanent CDR CRCF methodology for them.

šŸ§‘ā€šŸ« Still, this starts the process of gathering the best available science, discussing gaps, and - crucially - filling them with the insights of the world’s leading practitioners.

šŸ¤“ Note: The Commission has already produced two excellent, thorough working papers on both technologies. A key pre-read if you intend to participate.

šŸ’™ No surprises here: I have long been advocating for a technology-neutral and diverse CRCF. We need as many shots on target as we can. I am really pleased to see that the EU COM is following up on its promise to gradually explore a whole range of technologies, moving from the initial DACCS/BECCS/BCR (basically done) to the next set (ERW/OAE).

šŸ“… When: 25th of September at 10AM CEST in hybrid format (if you want to attend in person - registration closes at 5PM CEST on 18th September).

šŸ‘‡ Link to sign up + agenda + working papers linked in the comments.

šŸ‘ A big shout-out to Enhanced Weathering Alliance (EWA) and Cascade Climate in particular, who have worked tirelessly to make this happen.

😃 What is your take? Have you reviewed the working papers? What chances do you see for a CRCF methodology?
