📊 Nat Bullard just released his annual decarbonisation deck. 200 carefully curated graphs that provide you with a full overview of how decarbonisation is progressing. It is the single most insightful deck I see each year.
Highly recommend checking out the full deck. Here were a few slides and stats that stood out to me:
🌧️ Valencia received more rainfall in 24h last year than in all of 2021-2023
We reached record emissions in 2024 (37.4Gt) and saw 1.6 degrees global warming overall
🪨 The world hit peak coal production in 2024 at 8.7Gt, the large majority of which are in China, India, and Indonesia
💵 Energy transition investment passed 2 trillion dollars for the first time in 2024
Of this investment, less than 0.3% went to CCS and CDR
💚 In 2024, the EU generated more energy from wind and solar than from fossil fuels
☀️ We installed record capacity for both solar (599GW) and wind (131GW) in 2024
💯 This deck is always both sobering and hope-inducing at the same time. Either way, it is a MUST for anyone working or interested in climate. I promise you these will be the best spent hours of your day.
👏 Huge thanks to Nat Bullard again for putting this together - it is an invaluable resource.
