🔦 This week I’m spotlighting the world’s #1 in CDR deliveries/tons - Exomad Green 🔦

🪨 Exomad Green is based in Bolivia and has a vision of becoming the leading producer of sustainable biochar carbon removal (hashtag#BCR) globally - they have so far delivered 48,202 tons and sold 179,211 tons, putting them at #1 in deliveries and #7 in sales on the CDR.fyi leaderboards.

What is Exomad Green’s carbon removal strategy?

🌳 Exomad Green recycles biomass residues, a byproduct currently disposed of through incineration, into a valuable resource - biochar. Their primary focus is on utilising hardwood forestry residues to create Tecnochar (their brand of biochar), which is 77% carbon content and can store carbon for hundreds to thousands of years.

🤝 A collaboration with Carbonfuture will support the monitoring, reporting, and verification (hashtag#MRV) for 32,000 tons of CDR credits from the Concepción facility to Microsoft by June 2024. This builds trust in biochar carbon removal and puts Exomad Green at the cutting edge of MRV, as each batch is tracked from production to application to ensure compliance to the Puro.earth standard.

How does Exomad Green operate?

🚜 Their first operational plant is in Concepción and they have two more in the pipeline - one under construction in Riberalta and another in the planning stages. They plan to produce 150,000 tons/year of biochar by 2025.

🌾 On top of carbon removal, Exomad Green prizes itself on its co-benefits - the process avoids the burning of forestry waste, addresses waste management issues, and can improve soil fertility, water retention, and agricultural productivity.

💦 The land-based co-benefits are achieved through the addition of high-quality biochar to farmland, of which thousands of tons are donated monthly. This increases the water retention capability and due to its high porosity, enriches microbial activity.

📣 Shoutout to Diego Justiniano, Marcelo Pereira Holters, Francesco Guglielmi, and the rest of the Exomad Green team
