🎥 Help bring biochar to the big screen
💬 If we want to take carbon removal mainstream, we need to move hearts, not just minds. Data and reports can only go so far. Stories move people. 🔥 That’s why The Biochar Effect - a new documentary by Mathew Schmid and Leila Conners - matters. It captures the power and promise of biochar carbon removal like nothing else. 🚴 Tour de Freiburg: Tyred but inspired
🔥 Biochar is about to ignite 🌲 That is my resounding takeaway from a long-needed catch-up with Hannes Junginger jungiger cycling through the gorgeous autumnal Black Forest. 📈 What has changed? Years of consistent growth and deliveries seemed to have finally turned skeptics around. And newcomers to the market - buyers and investors alike - are seeing biochar carbon removal (BCR) for what it is: the most shovel-ready, reliable, mature durable CDR technology available today.

🤔 Did I get it all wrong?
🔄 No surprises here: I’ve been a passionate advocate for the inclusion of carbon removals into the EU’s Emission Trading System (and other ETSs around the world). 🤝 There is another way, though. One which I have personally barely covered and which could prove to be much more effective in scaling this much-needed CDR industry: a removal compliance system. 📑 Carbon Gap is unveiling its new report next week, examining a different path to drive long-term demand for permanent c

👀 The world’s biggest carbon market just got BIGGER
🤯 The Chinese emission trading system is a whopping 6x the size of Europe’s ETS and now covers 60% of all Chinese and 15% of global emissions. Mind-blowing. Honest admission: I knew almost nothing about the world’s biggest carbon market until I started doing my own research. It’s fascinating: ◾The ETS was launched in 2021, designed to support the national goal of peak emissions in 2030 (65% reduction vs 2005) and net-zero in 2060 ◾The ETS started with power (2021 - 5Gt - 40%
