📊 A new national poll of 2,300 Canadians by Carbon Removal Canada and the Carbon Business Council shows two-thirds (64%) of Canadians support carbon removal — and four in five (81%) believe it’s essential for Canada’s future.
Also remarkable:
✅ 67% believe it will create jobs and grow the economy
✅ 62% say they’re more likely to vote for candidates backing it
✅ 56% view companies more favorably when they invest in removals
🤝 This support cuts across political lines: from 77% of Liberal voters and 76% of NDP voters to 51% of Conservatives. Quebec (74%) and Ontario (68%) lead regionally.
😯 I am personally quite surprised by this data. Most people I speak to have no idea what CDR even is? Seems like Canadians are a few steps ahead.
🧰This all builds on incredible groundwork already laid in Canada:
▪️ 78 CDR companies with an estimated removal capacity of 12Mt
▪️ 60% DACCS CAPEX covered by the CCUS ITC
▪️ $10m in federal CDR procurement underway
▪️ A Prime Minister who knows carbon markets better than any other head of state
💪 I’ve long been championing Canada as I believe it has everything it takes to be a global leader on CDR.
👏 Huge credit to Na'im Merchant Merchant and the team at Carbon Removal Canada for all you do to put CDR on the map in Canada and to Ben Rubin at the Carbon Business Council for helping quantify this national momentum.
❓ What is your take? Are you as surprised as I am by the results?
