📈 How can Europe scale up CDR over the next 5 years?

🤔 There seems to be broad optimism for CDR in the 2030s: compliance markets (e.g. EU ETS) will kick in and take the industry to the next level. But what about the period before that? How do we not just survive, but continue to scale the industry in the meantime?
💶 That is exactly what the European Commission has been trying to figure out. It estimates that we will need up to €6.7b in funding over the next five years to hit the Union’s aspirational target of 5Mt and get us on track for the 75Mt needed for 2040 (which, according to @carbon gap, is a massive underestimation: 280Mt in reality).
📑 Back in May, a workshop was organised to gather perspectives and present some recommendations (see comments for Scoop we did on this). Now, they released hundreds of pages of reports with details on exactly where we stand, what our policy options are, and where the money could come from.
🎙️ Don’t despair: we got the lead author of these reports - Hugh McDonald, Senior Fellow at Ecologic Institut - to join Eve Tamme and I on the CDR Policy Scoop to help us unpack these exciting developments in detail.
🗓️ Make sure to register today for Monday, 15th of September at 9am PDT 🇺🇸 / noon EDT 🇺🇸 / 6pm CEST 🇪🇺: https://lnkd.in/dARcGNmh
👇 As always, share your questions and feedback with us in advance so we can weave it into our conversation with Hugh.
👋 See you there
