🗑️ Is CO₂ a waste or commodity? 🤑

💬 What sounds like a trivial question is actually a central debate happening in policy circles right now.

🏭 On the one hand, we need to durably store billions of tons of CO₂ through CDR and CCS to deal with residual and historic emissions.

🔄 On the other hand, CO₂ is a crucial gas used in countless industrial processes, currently procured almost exclusively from the fossil fuel industry. We have to start creating circular usage of this CO₂ (CCU) or, even better, use non-fossil sources of CO₂ (BECCU/BioCCU/DACCU).

🌍 Both are central pillars in the fight against climate change.

🏛️ This trade off is at the heart of what carbon management is all about. And it leads to some difficult policy choices with huge impact on various industries and, most importantly, the climate.

🤩 To be honest, I am just starting to dip my toes in this topic. As such, I am thrilled to join a CDR Policy Scoop with two of the world’s top experts: Rachael Moore, PhD from CarbStrat, someone I have been following closely for years for all things carbon management. And the one and only Eve Tamme, who needs no introduction.

🤔 But now over to you: have you thought about this challenge? What is your take? Where should policy focus its attention and money?
