⚛️ Nuclear energy is evil

🙅 Growing up, any mention of nuclear at the dinner table would lead to prolonged tirades and to this day I avoid talking about it in family circles.
📗 The Greenpeace Magazine - which I reliably read cover to cover every month for 15 years - would provide story after story of how nuclear energy was contaminating the earth for generations.
🍄 Even when collecting mushrooms in the pristine forests of my Alpine hometown, I would be reminded to avoid certain delicious mushrooms because they were still radioactive from the Chernobyl disaster.
🇯🇵 Then came Fukushima, and Merkel’s u-turn on German nuclear, applauded by many - including myself at the time.
🇩🇪 Today, I think this was the single biggest policy failure of Merkel’s impressive 16 years as Chancellor. It locked Germany into dirty, expensive energy, which is fuelling Germany’s devastating deindustrialisation.
🇫🇷 Meanwhile, across the border, France has some of the cheapest and cleanest energy in Europe. The difference? They have nuclear energy.
☣️ To this day, nuclear energy remains one of the most divisive topics in climate. As such, it makes a perfect next topic for my “Uncomfortable Climate” series.
✊ This time, I have none other than Zion Lights as a guest. A former Extinction Rebellion activist turned top nuclear advocate, Zion has gone through quite the transformation herself.
🎙️ I cannot wait to dig deep into the dogma, the myths, and the reality of nuclear with Zion.
