🤔 A few days ago I gave a lecture on carbon dioxide removal to students at UCLA. I was caught a bit off-guard when the presenter introduced me as an expert for geoengineering.
🏭 I have never really thought of CDR as geoengineering. Why would it be? Emitting gigatons of CO2 into the atmosphere and changing our climate irreversibly is not labelled geoengineering. So doing the opposite shouldn't be either, right?
👉 Some might say it doesn't matter. To me, it does. Geoengineering has a strong connotation of unpredictable negative environmental consequences, something I do not believe is the case for almost all CDR approaches.
