🌱 Practising what I preach: I applied biochar in my garden

☀️ On Portugal’s coast, my adopted home, summers are hot and the wind quickly dries out any soil. My first summer there, I saw the impact on my terraced garden first hand: daily watering.

🪨 Time to superpower my fruit and veg, using the black gold I write about so much: biochar.

🚿 Did you know that biochar increases plant-available water by up to 30%, can reduce nutrient leaching by up to 60%, and improves soil aggregate stability. Ah, and it also stores carbon for hundreds to thousands of years.

🇵🇹 The biochar was generously given to me by Ibero Massa Florestal, S.A. , the incredible biochar company operating in the North of Portugal who I had the pleasure of shooting a documentary with recently.
