❗ No Net Zero Without Nuclear ❗
⚡ Something remarkable is happening in energy. The technology that environmentalists spent decades fighting is suddenly everywhere. ☢️ Microsoft, Google, Amazon and Meta have collectively contracted for over 13 gigawatts of nuclear power. Global nuclear generation hit a record high in 2025 and is set to keep climbing. Investment in nuclear has risen 50% in five years and is expected to exceed $70 billion in 2025 alone. 🔄 The nuclear narrative is changing rapidly, alongside i

🌐 What on earth are Long-term Strategies (LTS) under the Paris Agreement and do they even matter?
😐 Honest admission: I knew/know almost nothing about LTSs. In fact, I barely hear anyone talk about them. One exception is Harry Smith PhD , who actually wrote a full PhD about it. Here are a few things I learnt in our CDR Policy Scoop with Harry: 🎯 Residual emissions in government plans are double what the CDR community assumes. We often talk about 5-15%. In LTSs, they are often more than double this. An even bigger issue: only 26 countries actually quantified their res

🎧 Weekend podcast recommendation
🧭 Navigating Net Zero with Alexia Kelly recently did an episode with Tisha Schuller on on Real Climate Progress and the Messy Middle. She’s an environmental activist turned strategic advisor to the oil and gas industry. 🫣 Sounds uncomfortable right? This is exactly the type of conversations we need to be having. Like it or not. 🌎 Her argument, roughly: the climate community's refusal to engage constructively with oil and gas isn't principled. It's counterproductive.

🤯 Net-zero or dying pensioners - seriously, how did we get to this point? 🤯
🎙️ And this clip is not some fringe outlet: The Diary Of A CEO is one of the world’s leading podcasts, with over a billion downloads/views to date. 🌍 I was fairly shocked by this episode with Konstantin Kisin . His discussion with host Steven Bartlett on global warming is yet another example of how we have moved from outright denying climate change to reframing it in misguided, binary outcomes: ❌ Net-zero means destroying our economy. ❌ Net-zero means killing pensioner

💡 Corporate Net-Zero 2.0? 💡
🤔 Clearly the current system is not working. But what needs fixing? And how exactly do we go about it? 👀 Check out our latest CDR Policy Scoop episode with Robert Höglund to find out more about his proposal for conditional net-zero targets: ▶️ Watch on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/eh_fJQy5 🎧 Listen here: https://lnkd.in/eDWU7xG5

💚 A love letter to nature carbon removals 💚
🌟 For too long, I have ignored you. Yet there you are: reliably removing 2 gigatons of CO2 year on year, while providing countless co-benefits to forests, animals, farmers, and us humans. 💪 Yes, we need to figure out how to compensate our emissions for the long-term. But this will take us years, yeah decades to scale up. In the meantime, you can help us lower warming at this crucial moment in time. ✅ I don’t need to tell you how to do your job: it comes natural to you. You

Jack changed my mind. Will he change yours?
⛽ I used to have a pretty clear opinion on the role of oil and gas on the way to net zero: boycott and phase out basically. 🫣 This is a very commonly held stance in the climate bubble. It is also one that is not particularly helpful. 📉 Of course, we need to phase out fossil fuels as quickly as possible. ⚠️ However, given the massive dependence of humanity on fossil fuels, there can be no net zero without decarbonising this sector. ⚖️ And not all actors are the same: some ar

⚖️ Without Like-for-Like, net-zero does not stop warming
😳 There, I said it. A statement that will lead to a lot of nodding for some, and fury for others… 👀 It is also the takeaway from a fascinating paper just released by Carbon Gap and authored by Sylvain Delerce . 🤓 Quick recap: What is the Like-for-Like (LfL) principle? From the paper: “Like-for-Like neutralisation requires balancing anthropogenic GHG sources with removals by sinks of similar or greater permanence than the carbon pool the emissions originate from and / o
