💀 So apparently CO2 is not bad for humans and the environment - at least in the U.S.?

🏛️ Today is one of those days where it is hard to find the motivation to keep going: the Trump Administration - expectedly - moved to eliminate the EPA’s 2009 "Endangerment Finding” which de facto created the legal basis for a lot of climate policy in the U.S.

🪓 Under the guise of “deregulation”, this is the largest and likely most impactful attack on climate science by this U.S. administration to date.

❌ The EPA will no longer be able to effectively regulate the six major greenhouse gases, vehicle emission standards will collapse, and future decisions will be handed to judges instead of scientists.

🌎 I cannot help but think what our children will say when they see what we did? How can the U.S. - the most powerful country in the world and the second largest emitter - act in clear defiance of climate science, leading to gigatons of unnecessary emissions which will hurt not just Americans, but everyone?

⚡ My only hope is that even Trump and his aides cannot defy the laws of the market: the green transition is happening. Solar is the cheapest form of energy. EVs are simply better cars. And most humans DO care about the environment.

💸 He is fighting a losing battle, and many American companies and industries have already invested billions into making their processes and products more sustainable. He just shot one of the biggest ‘own goals’ in history, and all of us - but especially Americans - will pay the price for it.

😡 It’s okay to be upset and angry today. How could we not be? But let’s channel all of that into the unstoppable force that we are part of. It might not look like it today, but Trump cannot win this fight.

❓ That is my take. How are you reacting to this? And - in case you have these insights - what does this mean concretely for things like 45Q and other crucial policy instruments the U.S. carbon management industry relies on?
