šŸ›¢ļø We need to talk about making cleaner fossil fuels šŸ›¢ļø

🧐 Yesterday, I shared how the energy transition looks unstoppable, and all the incredible data from Nat Bullard to prove it. At the same time, it is a hard fact that the world will take years, maybe decades to wean itself off fossil fuels.

šŸ’” If we’re going to burn oil anyway in the short to medium term, the difference between high-leakage, high-intensity barrels and cleaner ones is real climate damage avoided.

šŸ”“ The common approach in the climate bubble is to dismiss any discourse that is not purely focused on fossil fuel phase out.

šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø Personally, I’ve always struggled with that. Yes, we need to do everything we can to make this transition. However, we should equally do whatever we can to make fossil energy as clean as possible.

šŸ‘‰ This is exactly what I want to talk about in my next episode of ā€œUncomfortable Climateā€ withĀ Jack Andreasen CavanaughĀ entitled ā€œDoes every ton matter? Decarbonising oil & gasā€.

šŸ’š Because there is a big difference if we consume Venezuelan or Norwegian oil - and we should understand the differences and encourage an increasingly less damaging product.

šŸ• My conversation with Jack was scheduled for today but - sadly - we had to reschedule it. It will now be on January 29th at 9 am PST šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø / 12 pm EST šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø / 6 pm CET šŸ‡ŖšŸ‡ŗĀ

šŸ™‡ Apologies to those who already registered and we hope you can make the new date.

šŸŒŽ I fundamentally believe that it doesn’t serve the climate to stigmatise conversations like these. We need to weigh into the grey, uncomfortable areas. That is usually where most of the value lies.

šŸ‘‹ See you on the 29th for this fascinating and timely conversation.
