🤔 What happens if we DON’T scale CDR fast enough? Do we need more drastic solutions?

ree

💭 I’m a pathological optimist. But in the current geopolitical climate, these questions have been plaguing me more and more. And I am not the only one…

🇮🇸 Even Iceland’s Climate Minister, Johann Pall Johannsson, told Reuters that, “We cannot afford to wait for definitive, long-term research before acting", in the context of the existential threat that the AMOC collapse would pose to his country (and the rest of the world, frankly).

❄️ That’s why I’m going to chat - live here on LinkedIn - with Paul Gambill - CDR veteran who has been diving deep into the fascinating and sometimes provocative idea that is Global Cooling.

⌛ His core argument: We’ve run out of time. Decarbonisation is proceeding too slowly. CDR is not scaling fast enough. Irreversible climate tipping points are approaching at an alarming rate. We need to buy ourselves time.

Some of the questions I’ll be asking Paul:

🔹 What exactly is “global cooling”?

🔹 What is the link between global cooling and CDR?

🔹 What would a world look like that’s actively trying to cool itself back down?

🔹 Should we back off from this altogether?

🤓 I’m really looking forward to this one. Not as a debate, but as an open, thoughtful exploration of our options in our fight for a liveable planet.

🙋🏻‍♀️ This is a controversial topic. So, more than ever, I would love to hear your take. Do you think we will inevitably need global cooling? When? What risks do you see?
